The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or beginning Associate Professor level, commencing in Fall of 2015.
In accordance with the University of Nevada’s mission as a land grant, tier one research institution, candidates will be expected to develop a strong research agenda, to teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and to perform service at both the university and community levels.
Candidates must have a doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field. The J.D. in addition to a Ph.D. would be considered highly desirable, however the J.D. alone will not be considered a terminal degree for this position. ABD candidates may be considered, providing the degree is completed by August 1, 2015. The competitive candidate will have teaching and research interests in the courts, jurisprudence and legal theory, ethical theory, and/or law and justice, with the ability to teach existing courses and develop new courses in one or more of these areas. The competitive candidate will also have a defined research agenda and experience in applying for external funding. Preference will be given to candidates with successful teaching experience at the university level.
Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada, Reno is close to cities such as Sacramento and San Francisco, and is 30 minutes to the northeast of Lake Tahoe. With the Black Rock Desert and Yosemite both short road trips away, Reno is a great destination for those interested in outdoor activities.
