Department Profile The Department offers a BA, MS, and Ph.D. in Sociology, a BA in Criminology and a BSW in Social Work. The department consists of 20 faculty members (16 in Sociology and 4 in Social Work), over 450 undergraduate majors, and over 40 sociology graduate students.
Position Function Assistant Professor
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Active participation in the teaching, research, and service responsibilities of the department. Maintain an instructional load of up to twelve hours per semester in introductory, advanced undergraduate and graduate courses. Participate in departmental activities.
Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in Sociology is required for appointment. The primary area of research and teaching will be in social demography with an ability and willingness to teach quantitative methods at the graduate level. Secondary areas of specialization are open, though specialization in areas of research and teaching that include rural, community, or international development are preferred.

On the schedule of classes, classes are listed as 3 credit hours each, though it does say "up to twelve hours." So it seems like it may be a 4-4, though the "up to" part makes it unclear. In any case, welcome to the academic job market post-2008.

I should clarify: The HR site ad is referring to our "full time equivalency", which is 12 hours. Our Assistant Professors are 50% teaching, which is 6 hours per semester, which is a 2/2 load. It is that last part that was left off the position description posted above!
