Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies
POSITION: Nine-month, full-time (50% teaching, 50% research), tenure-track.
START DATE: August 16, 2015. (Search could be extended until position is filled.)
DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Human and Community Development seeks an outstanding scholar with expertise in bio-social-behavioral perspectives on child/adolescent/family health and well-being with research efforts that reflect an appreciation for diverse families. The successful candidate will contribute to the expansion of the biological/physiological dimension of the Department’s cell-to-society approach to health and well-being among children, adolescents, and families. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, gene-social environment interactions as related to health behavior or chronic health conditions; the interface of physiology, emotions, and close relationships or parenting; stress response and health; bio-psycho-social consequences of trauma; prevention (e.g., of obesity) from a bio-social-behavioral perspective. We have a strong preference for candidates with expertise in advanced quantitative techniques, innovative methodologies for capturing biological-social-behavioral processes, and/or translational research.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• An earned Ph.D. (or doctoral level) degree in Human Development and Family Studies or closely related field, such as Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, Family and Community Health, etc.
• Doctorate must be completed prior to start date.
• Strong skills in the integration of biological, social, and behavioral approaches to research and demonstrated capacities to build and maintain interdisciplinary research collaborations.
• Evidence of a systematic research program with potential to secure external funding.
• Evidence of effective teaching and commitment to the mentoring of both graduate and undergraduate students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Sustain an active and visible program of research and scholarship that can compete successfully for external funding.
• Pursue collaborative relationships with other UIUC faculty and graduate students.
• Teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels; advise graduate and undergraduate students; mentor the research of graduate and undergraduate students.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service and governance.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary for this 9-month academic appointment will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
