I really appreciate Amherst's transparency and empathy for candidates. Rejections suck, but it would suck more if I was to get one on Rumor Mill rather than being informed early on. I wish to "grow up" to be someone like Dr. Joya Misra in her empathy and of course scholarship.

Thank you to the UMass search committee for the transparency and open and timely communication (as best as possible). Best wishes to those candidates still in the running!

I am writing with an update on the hiring process at the University of Massachusetts. The recruitment committee has been truly impressed by the quality of the applicant pool. Making decisions about which candidates to move to our long short lists was challenging. But we have selected those candidates who we believe most closely match the department's needs, and have notified others that we will not be moving their applications forward. If you have not heard from us, you remain in the running. Even if we eventually interview other candidates, you will not hear from us until the search is completed. We are sorry for the long silences, but this means that you remain among our top candidates in our search.
Amy Schalet, co-chair recruitment committee, UMasss Amherst

In no way do I expect this kind of transparency and communication from the departments that have passed over my application, but wow...even in the face of rejection I've been left with such a good impression of the soc program at UMass. Joya and Amy know how to run a tight ship!

The wiki shows that interviews have been scheduled for UMass-Amherst. Can anybody confirm this?

In her September 15 post, Dr Misra mentioned that they would be scheduling campus visits for November. Anyone know if they've gotten there yet? November starts on Saturday.
