JOB SUMMARY: The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of Anthropology and Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of sociology to join our active and collegial sociology program in August 2015. This position is a joint position with the Interdisciplinary Studies Program.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will have a 3/3 teaching load (including courses in sociology and in interdisciplinary studies), maintain an active research agenda, and provide service to the department, the Interdisciplinary Studies program, and the university.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in sociology by time of appointment and evidence of a productive research agenda. As this is a joint appointment with the Interdisciplinary Studies program, the applicant must show evidence of an interdisciplinary focus either through coursework outside of sociology, a certificate in an interdisciplinary area, or an interdisciplinary research focus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The specialization area is open, but we particularly encourage applicants engaging in interdisciplinary scholarship with interests in any of the following areas: nonprofit studies, inequality (broadly defined), family, education, health, and/or the environment. Additional preferred qualifications include experience using or teaching multiple research methods and teaching and mentoring in a university setting with a diverse student body.
