LEHIGH UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in social epidemiology, at the assistant professor level, effective Fall 2015. The position will be a joint appointment between the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the interdisciplinary program in Health, Medicine, and Society (HMS); hiring and evaluation will be coordinated between the two programs.This is one of three newly created positions intended to build on existing strengths in the area of Community Health. This †cluster† of positions is focused on Community-Based Participatory Research. One position, a health-focused quantitative psychologist, has been hired with a joint appointment in Psychology and HMS.
We are additionally searching for an expert in Community Based Participatory Research to be jointly appointed in the College of Education and HMS. The new hires will form a sophisticated, methodologically focused core in Community Health that cuts across four areas of current expertise at Lehigh†global health, environmental health, mental health, and school-based intervention†and will enhance current collaborations to improve the health of communities in the Lehigh Valley, PA region and in similar-sized communities across the U.S. and globally. Lehigh University is a highly competitive, research-oriented private university located one hour north of Philadelphia and 90 minutes west of New York City.
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology has thirteen faculty members and a Masters program in Sociology as well as undergraduate majors and is the home of Lehigh†s Social Science Research Center. We are actively involved in a variety of interdisciplinary programs. The Health, Medicine, and Society program teaches undergraduate students humanities and social science approaches to health, including courses on public health. The standard teaching load is 2-2.
