Position:
The College of Health Professions invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor position in the Health Science Department beginning August 2015.
Qualifications:
Research doctoral degree in public health, health education, health promotion or other closely related field required. ABD applicants will be considered, but appointment will be at the instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2015. Evidence of competencies as defined by the field and mastery in responsibilities related to health education/health promotion. Record of high-quality teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels that include knowledge of and ability to use new technologies in the instructional process. Demonstrate ability to develop interdisciplinary research/programs that will support health education/health promotion in communities. Demonstrate record of scholarship productivity that may include ability to obtain external funding. Applicants with Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification preferred. Faculty assigned a reduced instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. Beginning the second year the workload reverts back to the standard instructional workload of seven to eight (7-8) course units.
Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate and graduate coursework related to health behavior theory, health promotion programming and public health methodologies that may include but not be limited to epidemiology, prevention programming, instructional methods and evaluation strategies. Maintain an active research agenda with consistent and demonstrated scholarship activity. Participate in curriculum development and assessment activities. Advise undergraduate and graduate students. Supervise student internships. Encourage and mentor undergraduate and graduate student interest in applied health promotion projects/research. Engage in interdisciplinary initiatives that support health promotion, particularly those that focus on diverse populations. Participate actively in shared governance.

The Department of Health Science, located within the College of Health Professions, has 12 full-time faculty and over 360 undergraduate majors across three concentrations: community health, school health and school/community health. The graduate program has over 130 students in the master’s degree program.
