Job Summary: The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), in the College of Social Science at Michigan State University, seeks a scholar to join the faculty. Michigan State University and HDFS are committed to researchers interested in working in diverse communities and with diverse populations. The scholar will be closely affiliated with the department's Family Resilience and/or Early Childhood Development areas. The position will also be strongly linked to Michigan State University's Research in Autism and Intellectual/Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (RAIND) Initiative - an initiative that includes collaborations focused on the prevention and treatment of persons with autism and intellectual disabilities across the College of Social Science, the College of Education, the College of Human Medicine, and the College of Engineering.
Desired areas of expertise include but are not limited to parenting processes and parent-child relationships in children with autism/intellectual/neurodevelopmental disabilities, impacts of disabilities on family functioning and processes highlighting resilience in families, family health and well-being, and the dynamics of families and community systems to promote community inclusion such as workforce development. Other areas of potential focus include the development, testing and evaluation of innovative interventions to assist individuals with intellectual/neurodevelopmental disabilities and their caregivers in optimal functioning and quality of life.
The candidate's responsibilities will include: building and sustaining an active program of scholarship as evidence by peer-reviewed publications and presentations; acquiring external funding from Federal granting agencies to support their program of research; teaching, mentoring and advising graduate students; teaching undergraduate students; and participating in department, college, and university governance activities.
Minimum Requirements: An earned doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies, Developmental Psychology, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, Early Childhood Special Education, Child Development, Ph.D. or Ed.D or related field. A commitment to establishing and/or maintaining an promising record of scholarly publications and granting potential. Commitment to working on applied research with cross-disciplinary research teams (e.g., CFT Clinic, MSU Child Development Laboratory schools, College of Medicine). A strong commitment to excellence in teaching.
