The Department of Health Education and Behavior at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications and nominations for three (3) tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor ranks. The Department has established research programs in behavioral aspects of substance misuse, obesity, HIV / AIDS , chronic disease self-management, health disparities, and digital health applications, and it maintains strong connections with the UF Center for Digital Health and Wellness, which advances research and education on the application of information and communication technologies to health promotion, disease prevention, wellness, and epidemiological surveillance. UF is a dynamic Carnegie Foundation Research University with very high research activity and enrolls over 50,000 students in 16 colleges. Research awards have risen steadily over the decades to last year’s $619 million, placing UF among the nation’s leading research institutions. More than half of the total awards supported health-related research.
The Department seeks individuals who will: (a) conduct an independent program of research that complements department and college research initiatives, (b) participate in collaborative research programs as appropriate to his/her interests, (c ) teach in the department’s educational programs, and (d) mentor MS/PhD students. Candidates with theoretical frameworks relevant to health behaviors such as behavioral economics, an established research record in the modification of health-related behavioral risk factors, strong quantitative or mixed methods research skills, and experience with multidisciplinary collaboration are encouraged to apply. Preferred areas of emphasis include substance misuse and behavioral economics, HIV / AIDS , community-based participatory research, use of communication technologies for health promotion (e.g., eHealth, mHealth, social media), and dissemination/implementation science. Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in health education, health behavior, or an appropriately related field in public health or the social and behavioral sciences. A record of extramural funding and excellence in teaching is required for the Associate Professor and Professor ranks.
