The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1st 2015. Applicants with a Ph.D. in Sociology or Criminology are preferred; however, applicants at the “All But Dissertation” (ABD) stage in their doctoral program with a dissertation defence scheduled will be considered.
The successful candidate will have a strong research program in the sociology of crime and criminal justice and will have demonstrated excellence in teaching. The candidate will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and be capable of supervising graduate students and sitting on various graduate student committees.
At the undergraduate level, the Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers a Major, Minor, and Area of Concentration in Sociology and Anthropology. The Department also partners (with the Department of Political Science) in the delivery of a highly successful undergraduate program in Criminal Justice and Public Policy. At the graduate level, the Department offers a MA and PhD in sociology, a MA in Public Issues Anthropology, and a MA in Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy. MA sociology students can also complete a collaborative program in International Development Studies.
Applications must include a letter of application (including a statement of teaching and research interests), a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier (including a description of their teaching philosophy, course outlines, and course evaluations), and selected recent published scholarly work (including a description of their research agenda). Applicants should provide contact information for three referees. The deadline for applications is November 1st 2014. Applications should be submitted in PDF format to:
