Furman will likely hire one position (must be able to teach quant methods) in the fall. Might get a second line (qual), but won't know until late August. Nothing has been officially approved yet, so no guarantees.

Substantive areas haven't been decided yet. Teaching load is 3-2. Pre-tenure sabbatical option at yr 4.

Here is the job ad we just uploaded to the employment service -kk Furman University: Tenure track position for assistant professor The Department of Sociology at Furman University invites applications for a tenure track assistant professorship beginning Fall 2015. A Ph.D. in Sociology by time of appointment is preferred. Candidates must be able and willing to teach our two-semester methods sequence on an every-other-year basis, which includes a general research methods course and a quantitative analysis course as well as oversight of individual quantitative student research projects OR be able and willing to teach a qualitative methods course yearly. Candidates should also have an interest in teaching introduction to sociology. Candidates should submit a CV, list of references, and a cover letter that addresses the following: (a) whether they are interested in the quantitative or the qualitative position (b) a solid understanding of the liberal arts mission, (c) the ability to teach our quantitative or qualitative methods courses (d) a record of past scholarly achievement and a clear plan for future research, (e) a willingness to incorporate undergraduates into their research, and (f) a list of mid- and upper-level courses other than the introduction to sociology that the candidate would like to teach, along with an explanation of how these courses would strengthen or usefully supplement the department’s current offerings and curriculum. Anyone have anymore details about this position or know much about this University? The website looks nice but it would be good to hear more real-world knowledge about what it's like there.

Furman will hire two positions this year, one quant and one qual. As stated in the job ad, please apply for either the quant OR qual line (we aren't looking for someone who tries to do both).
