Job Description:
The Department of Anthropology + Sociology at Roger Williams University seeks an Assistant Professor specializing in medical sociology to contribute to a growing public health program in addition to the primary responsibility of teaching within the Anthropology + Sociology department. This is a tenure-track position. The department presently has 5 full-time positions (3 in Anthropology and 2 in Sociology). We are a small and dynamic department that emphasizes theory and hands on methods experience in the classroom and through community-engaged research and learning programs both locally and abroad.
The successful candidate will be an active teacher-scholar, with research focusing on health-related issues or health systems outside of the United States. A qualitative or a mixed methods approach should be utilized. Teaching responsibilities will include Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Imagination, Introduction to Public health or Public health Practicum, and elective courses in Sociology. There will be opportunities for curricular and program development within the chosen candidate's specific area of expertise.
We are most interested in applicants who approach teaching and research in innovative and dynamic ways. In order to enhance our current strengths, the program seeks a Sociologist who can contribute to the creation of new learning opportunities that emphasize both theory and method in a variant of classes in both Bristol and possibly abroad. This is congruent with our mission to increase breadth of global content and exploration to cultivate active learners engaged in the University community and beyond.
In general, all tenure-track RWU faculty must demonstrate effectiveness in the following four categories: 1) teaching; 2) academic advising and program development; 3) scholarly, professional, and/or creative activities; and 4) institutional and/or community service.
