The Department of Sociology and Social Studies invites applications for a tenure track position at the Lecturer or Assistant Professor level effective 1 July 2015.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for the Department's undergraduate and graduate courses in feminist theory, the sociology of gender, and critical and comparative family studies. In addition she or he will contribute to the Department's teaching in one or more of the following areas: qualitative methodology; rural and community studies; Canadian political economy; and the sociology of work.
We seek an individual with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The successful candidate will have a PhD (or be close to completion), a record of scholarly activity, and evidence of excellence in teaching. The Department is committed to a balanced program of teaching, scholarly activity and service to the community.

When was Regina relocated to the US? Do they want just doctoral? Or MA, too? How about undergrad? Should I swing by my high school and see if they have a file on me still? Middle school? Elementary?

The transcript photocopy is standard, especially for Canadian universities, for administrative use only.

was that transcripts as an application package requirement is rather rare in Canada.

I'll second that. I'm an Assistant Prof at a Canadian university. Never seen a place ask for transcripts before.

Mount Royal University, Macewan University, University of Lethbridge all asked for transcripts in recent years. Maybe it's not as common, that was a mistake, but the requirement seems to be working its way East ... watch out, Manitoba!

I'm a prof at MRU and noticed this thread. Just wanted to clarify that, no, we don't ask for transcripts as part of our search. The HR office may ask for them when someone is hired to confirm their degree (no idea) but we do not ask for them as part of the search.

So, what purpose does it serve to request transcripts? Even photocopied transcripts impose a cost on applicants and, surely, the dissertation supervisor can confirm that the applicant is (or was) a student with a dissertation with an expected defense date or has already been defended. Is there that much fraud of this sort?

It's an HR office thing, usually. And HR specialists are trained in business schools. Many work in the business world before coming to a university HR office. In business, there's lots of resume/credential fraud. So, even though we're talking about jobs in academia, the people who are deciding on HR policy are from a different milieu.

I applied for a job at MRU three years ago (not in sociology) and they asked for transcripts, so I admit to further inaccuracy in my original assessment.

So, "prof at MRU", why did I have to send my graduate transcripts in? Do you think I was lying to sound like a big shot? Who are you to "clarify" anything? Unless you're the president of MRU, there's no ONE PERSON who can speak for every search on every department. Levitate much? Jerk. I'm a prof at MRU and noticed this thread. "What gives???" - chill. From what I gather the MRU prof clarified that this requirement was set up by HR, not the search committee. HR probably wrote up the ad.
