Professorship in Comparative Welfare State Research
The Department of Political Science and Public Management and the Centre for Welfare State Research at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense invite applications for a full professorship in comparative welfare state research to be filled by November 15, 2014 or soon thereafter.
The Centre for Welfare State Research is a vibrant interdisciplinary research group. Established in 2005, it is one of the leading groups in comparative welfare state research in Europe today. It participates in a number of national and international research projects.
We are looking for a new professor, who will contribute to this agenda.
To qualify for the position, applicants must have:
A disciplinary background in social science (political science, sociology, social policy, etc.)
A strong and international research profile in the field of comparative welfare state research
The ability to teach in the international Master in Comparative Public Policy and Welfare Studies as well as in the general political science programme
Demonstrated excellent competences in qualitative or quantitative methods
Applicants must have an international research profile and demonstrate a substantial publication record of original, high-quality academic contributions. Their research must show progression, and particular importance is attached to the publication of articles and monographs in internationally recognized journals and with internationally recognized publishers.
An applicant’s teaching qualifications are important. The department offers a number of BA and master study programmes. When teaching, a professor is expected to work conscientiously and systematically with the relation between academic content and applied forms of teaching and evaluation. Moreover, a professor is expected to continually develop his or her teaching skills and contribute to the further development of specific curricula and study programmes at the department. The qualified applicant must have a solid teaching record; emphasis will be placed on good teaching evaluations.
Applicants must have demonstrated the ability to head larger research projects and to contribute to developing a vibrant research environment. The successful applicant is expected to show personal involvement, at the same time have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to contribute positively to the department’s academic and social communities.
Additionally, the successful applicant should be able to manage a number of other tasks: attract external funding, knowledge sharing with the public, counseling and supervision of assistant professors, postdocs and PhD students, prepare academic assessments, head study programmes as well as other administrative tasks.
The application must prove experience in the above areas.
It is expected that the candidates will be a dedicated part of the everyday academic and social environment at the department, and within a couple of years, foreign appointees are expected to be able partake in administrative tasks in Danish and be able to contribute to our Danish study programmes.
