Assistant Professor of Sociology
The University of Tennessee at Martin
The Department of Behavioral Sciences seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 1, 2014. A Ph.D. in Sociology and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student body are required. A.B.D. will be considered.
Applicants are expected to teach social problems and introductory level sociology. Any area of specialization will be considered.
A willingness to engage in distance learning and online teaching is desirable. Additionally, applicants are expected to provide evidence of effective teaching or an orientation toward excellence in teaching. Although the University of Tennessee at Martin is primarily a teaching university, a potential for, or a record of published research and scholarly conference presentations is preferred. Salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate scholarship, share in committee work, advise students, and perform community service.
The successful candidate will be joining an academic community that includes faculty from criminal justice, psychology, social work, and sociology. The University of Tennessee at Martin is a primary campus in the University of Tennessee System. The campus is located in Northwest Tennessee approximately 125 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles northwest of Nashville. The University of Tennessee at Martin has a combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,000 students. The emphasis is solidly on excellence in undergraduate instruction.
