I'm the poster who congratulated Hurst earlier. How about not hating on her for moving? There are lots of reasons for moving, but it's almost never just to take jobs away from the poor ABD's. Sometimes someone is in an tenure-track job and doesn't like it for whatever reason. Are you suggesting that they stay there forever? Sometimes they don't like the place they're living. Should they stay forever?
People move in academia; It's not done for malicious reasons. We're all out searching for professional and personal happiness.

All the same, as someone in a position with nothing it's hard to feel sympathetic, or congratulatory, for someone how is not satisfied with their 'something'.

Two questions for the anti-bandwagon whiner:
1. How entitled are you? 2. How are you ever going to survive academia?
PS: Congrats to Hurst!

People are justified in venting their frustrations. Asking someone "how they're going to survive academia" implies you've never had a few fits of your own. It's a career made of bruised egos.

Since hiring already employed people is not new or exclusive to OSU, I'd suggest that people interested in discussing the fairness and efficiency of hiring already employment people create a specific thread for that. It would likely be more productive and less acrimonious.

Dear Can't Join on the Bandwagon,
Put your money where your mouth is. Post your CV and let us judge who should have received the job.

Dear Can't Join on the Bandwagon, Put your money where your mouth is. Post your CV and let us judge who should have received the job. What next, are you going to ask them for their transcripts?! The Dude's right, this thread has spiraled out of control. This was supposed to inform on who got the job, plain and simple. Anything else is gossipy nonsense.

I"m proposing that we snapchat most of this thread, and not preserve the posts in our archives. If anyone wants to start/continue a discussion about untenured profs making lateral moves (or whatever the issue seems to be here), go ahead and start a new thread in the Misc section.

Archivist, I don't think there's a reason to delete the part of the thread on another subject. just put it in another thread. that's consistent with the board's policy's. otherwise it's arbitrary deletion and sets a bad record
