Hendrix College invites applications from sociologists for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology. The College seeks to extend its tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship by attracting faculty who combine mastery of their disciplines with broad intellectual interests and commitment to the aims of a liberal arts college. The position is listed as a one- year appointment with the possibility of renewal and will begin in August 2014. The doctorate is required for appointment as assistant professor; ABDs will be considered for appointment as instructor.
Research focus is open to any topical specialization in sociology. Preference will be given to candidates who can expand course offerings in our small department and make use of experiential learning. Experience teaching undergraduate courses in theory, research methods, and an introduction to sociology is desired. In addition, the new faculty member will be expected to contribute courses related to his or her specializations. The teaching load is three courses per semester.
Applications should include a letter addressing the candidate’s interest in teaching in a liberal arts environment, a curriculum, three letters of reference, and transcripts of all graduate and undergraduate work.
