Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice
The University of Tennessee at Martin
The University of Tennessee at Martin seeks applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. UT Martin is a primary campus in the state-wide University of Tennessee System, with a combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,000 students. The campus is located in Northwest Tennessee approximately 125 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles west of Nashville. We desire a motivated candidate who will be integrally involved in program expansion and development at several extended campus locations.
Housed within the Department of Behavioral Sciences, the Criminal Justice Program has approximately 250 undergraduate majors and offers the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, with Law Enforcement, Corrections, Courts and Law, Generalist, and Forensics concentrations. We are a growing program and offer competitive salary, excellent benefits, and the opportunity for professional and scholarly growth. The Program is home to the Kappa Epsilon chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, a robust internship program, and the National Forensic Academy Collegiate Program.
A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field (with emphasis/specialization or a master’s degree in criminal justice) is required; exceptional ABD’s will be considered. The J.D. alone is not an appropriate qualification for this position. Area of specialization is open; however, the selected candidate’s teaching area will include undergraduate courses in Criminology, Research Methods, and other courses in the BSCJ curriculum based upon program needs. Additional responsibilities include academic advising of students, recruitment, service, and scholarship. This position’s primary assignment will be on the Jackson, TN, campus, and frequent travel to all campus locations (Ripley, Selmer, Parsons, and Martin) is required. Some classes will be conducted in the evenings and via interactive closed-circuit television.
