Job Summary
Bucknell University's Latin American Studies Program invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Latin American Studies to begin August 2012. PhD at time of appointment is preferred. Please note that this is an open rank position: both junior and senior candidates will be seriously considered and those with sufficient experience may be considered for hire with tenure pending approval of departmental and university committees. The successful candidate will be a Latin Americanist with interests in interdisciplinary work in the Arts and Humanities and/or the Social Sciences, a commitment to undergraduate teaching, potential for excellent scholarly or artistic work in Latin American Studies, research and/or teaching experience in Latin America, and fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese. This position is open to any discipline and field of specialization within Latin American Studies. If all other criteria are equal, particular consideration will be given to candidates who evidence a specialization in one or more of the following: Brazil, Afro-Latin American cultures, indigenous cultures, social movements, sub-regional studies, intellectual or religious currents, and art history or artistic movements.
Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate chosen to fill this position will be appointed directly to the Latin American Studies Program (LAMS) and will be responsible for teaching 5 courses each academic year. Within the five-course teaching load, the faculty member will be responsible for two core courses: LAMS 150: Introduction to Latin America and LAMS 250: Challenges for the 21st Century. A third course, LAMS 285: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Latin America, will be offered periodically in combination with other course offerings. In addition, two topics courses at the 200 or 300-level will be taught each year in the faculty member's area of specialization. Finally, the candidate who fills this position will be expected to contribute the College of Arts and Sciences core curriculum, which might include a First Year Foundation Seminar on Latin America.
