VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN SOCIOLOGY
MELLON POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW
The Sociology Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty position as a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of two years beginning Fall 2014 and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. The position is supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and by a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The incumbent will teach courses in the general area of the sociology of race and class. Subfields are open, but we are interested in scholar/teachers who can teach broad courses that address these inequalities intersectionally and/or comparatively. The incumbent will teach one course each semester in their areas of specialization.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree awarded no earlier than 2011 but in hand by July 1, 2014. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
The Sociology Department at Oberlin has a long and distinguished history as one of the first institutions to offer courses in the discipline. We are a six-person department that reflects the breadth and rigor of the discipline while also contributing to many interdisciplinary programs in the liberal arts. We have strong resources for speakers, research, and curricular development. More information can be found at www.oberlin.edu/sociolog.
