The Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University is hiring postdocs interested in urban inequality topics writ large - including race/ethnicity, health, and education. This is a great opportunity to link up with a growing and productive institute and department (Sociology at Rice), and join a large cohort of postdocs interested in a variety of research topics relating to inequality (we currently have 9 total). Act fast - the deadline is Jan. 20th. To apply: jobs.rice.edu/applicants/jsp/shared/Welcome_css.jspAnd click on "professional/managerial" and then scroll down to the Kinder Institute links.

The post-doc for urban inequality in neighborhoods stresses the ability to perform multilevel modeling and use statistical (Stata) and geographic (GIS) software. Is there opportunity for qualitative researchers who also do work on these issues?

As an aside, qual people - take a class in GIS if you can. You might like it! I do mixed methods and I love GIS. It's something about it being both analytical and creative, with making cool maps. (I know, it's a dumb reason, but it's true.)

Any word on whether these positions (both the urban inequality and education positions) have been filled?

I believe they have both been filled. (One went to someone in my department. I don't know who the other went to, but I heard it had also been filled.)

For the urban job, the said there was an upwards of two positions, so it's possible they are still deciding on/waiting for an acceptance of the second offer.
