Does the anxiety ever go away?

I know some more senior people read this blog, so I wanted to ask: does job market related anxiety ever go away?
I am a new assistant professor, and I am in my first year on the tenure track. Back when I was on the market I'd feel a great deal of anxiety about the market, and thought that once I landed a job it would get better. But it honestly hasn't. Now, I know objectively that I am lucky to have a job and that I should relax and enjoy it, but in the back of my mind I am always wondering if I am doing enough to be able to ever move up. I teach a 4-4, and even though I've published new articles since getting this job I am still always worrying that I should be publishing more, just in case I want to move up, or out. Hell, I am even here on this site on a friday night. I honestly feel that essentially what has happened was that all the tenure track anxiety have only been added on top of the old anxiety I felt on the market, as opposed to replacing it.

I know there is no stress-free job, and again, I know how lucky I am to even have a job. But I was just wondering if people who have been doing this longer ever get to a point where they are just content, job market-wise.

I can't say, as I'm not that far along, but that's a great question to talk about with a therapist or counselor for a few months. It'd be money well spent.

[Getting tenure]

Getting tenure lessens the anxiety some, but tenured professors still have to deal with bad reviews on articles, pleasing students, faculty and deans, and trying to juggle family obligations and crazy workloads. If you go on the job market again as a tenured prof, you get go throughout the whole crazy application and interview process again as well. The jobs market may not be as hard when one has tenure, but it is still pretty stressful.

You've still gotta worry about your job too. When budgets get slashed, instead of getting rid of the less senior faculty across the board, many universities are eliminating entire departments. That's happened at my own university before, though sociology was spared. Even being a Full Professor doesn't save you if your department is eliminated. So, in my experience, tenure hasn't changed the feelings of insecurity.
