Just got an email from the chair that they have hired someone. The email did not indicate name/department. Anyone know?

But it would be inappropriate to name names.

But it would be inappropriate to name names. That's the point of this board...

Dr. Yes - why exactly would it be inappropriate to name names? An offer has been accepted, no?

It is possible the person who accepted does not have a signed contract yet. That process takes a minute and until it is in writing the deal is not done. Many departments notify candidates that an offer has been verbally accepted and it would not be appropriate for them or anyone else to name that person until the contract is signed.

Usually departments do not notify other candidates until the contract has been signed.
