Any experiences?? Good, bad, or ugly? Thinking of submitting... no idea what to expect.

Are you at a Canadian institution or shooting for a job in Canada? If not I would submit elsewhere. I could be wrong but I imagine you would get more of a boost from publishing in a third-tier regional journal (Sociological Focus etc) than in CJS.

At a Canadian institution and have data/results which connect to social policy in Canada. (FYI: In Canada, you get a lot more boost from CJS than from third-tier US journals... My question was more about the review and editorial experience, of which I don't know much).

Hi,
I am also at a Canadian School and would probably second that CJS is seen as higher as third tier US journals but really only by a margin. I have been on several hiring committees and would not really pay attention to people who publish in CJS. If you have a strong record anyways - it's an ok addition to have - but not as primary pubs. Why don't you try the British journals first? They are very open to Canadian things....
