Description: The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor position in sociology which will commence August 15, 2014, subject to final budgetary approval.
The Department currently offers a baccalaureate degree program with a major and a minor in both Sociology and Anthropology, as well as honours programs in each discipline.

Duties: New faculty members are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/scholarship/service pattern has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/service pattern has a focus on teaching and service. There is an option to change work patterns after tenure. A candidate should indicate their desired work pattern in their letter of interest. Applicants interested in the teaching/scholarship/service pattern should have the ability and intent to pursue a research program.
Qualifications: We are seeking applicants with expertise in the sociology of gender. Candidates should also be able to contribute to our core course offerings in qualitative methods. We are particularly committed to hiring a candidate who works within a framework that considers the intersections between gender and other pertinent axes of inequality such as: race, Indigeneity, class, sexuality, religion, ability, and age. In addition, familiarity with critical race theory and/or post and anti-colonial feminist scholarship is highly desirable for this position. The successful candidate will also incorporate a social justice perspective into their teaching and/or research. Faculty members are expected to be committed to teaching, to develop and deliver courses in their areas of expertise, and to contribute to the department. A Ph. D. (or Ph.D. near completion) in sociology is preferred; a Master’s degree is required.
