Folks,
I used this job forum extensively two years ago when I was on the market. Now, I would like to contribute a job back to it!
I work at Quest University Canada, in Squamish BC, and we are running a general social science hire and would invite applications from qualified sociology folks with demonstrated undergraduate teaching excellence. Quest is an innovative liberal arts university on a residential campus in one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Although this ad is running in several other venues and the deadline is about two weeks from now, it occurred to me today to list it here, so I am.
The original advert:
Quest University Canada seeks applicants for a full-time, continuing faculty position and we will consider candidates from any social science discipline or any interdisciplinary program where the focus is on the social sciences. The successful candidate will teach concentration courses in their area of specialty, and social science courses in our Foundation Program. All Quest faculty are expected to be able to teach the Cornerstone and Question courses, and candidates who demonstrate the willingness and experience to teach Rhetoric will be given special consideration. We encourage talented instructors with interests beyond our current offerings to apply, but the search will not be limited to this area. In particular, we invite applicants who complement the expertise of our faculty. Areas that are already represented in our social science faculty include: political philosophy, international relations, psychology (comparative, cognitive, cultural, developmental, and, political), sociology, race and ethnicity, resource management and environmental studies, public health and economics (behaviour, micro/macro, international, and environmental development). Please examine the profiles of current faculty and indicate how your expertise complements the expertise of our faculty. In your letter of application please discuss which courses you can create for our concentration program that would expand our offerings to Quest students interested in the social sciences. Please also specify how you are qualified to teach the social science foundation courses. For more detail on these and other courses see Course Descriptions. Rank open. Please do not apply for this position if you are applying for any other position currently being offered at Quest. Hiring for this position is subject to budgetary approval.
All Quest classes are seminar-style and are limited to enrolments of fewer than 20 students. Further details about Quest and the application procedure can be found under Information for Faculty Applicants. Applications should be sent to ssfaculty@questu.ca; please put the words "Social Science General" in the subject heading.
A PhD (or equivalent) and undergraduate-level teaching experience is required. Although research, especially that involving undergraduates, is encouraged, those seeking a research-focused faculty position should not apply. Applications should be received by November 29, 2013; interviews for finalists will be scheduled in December and January. The start date for the position is August 1, 2014.
All applications must include (1) a cover letter of no more than two pages (a) demonstrating familiarity with the Quest academic program, (b) specifying how you are qualified to teach Foundation courses across our academic divisions, (c) discussing which interdisciplinary courses you can create for our concentration program and how it will expand our current offerings to Quest students, (d) explaining what you can contribute to our innovative curriculum, and (e) describe how your scholarship and teaching contribute to diverse communities; (2) a curriculum vitae, including the name and contact information of three references, and (3) a one-page statement of teaching philosophy. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations. Applications should be sent to ssfaculty@questu.ca. Please do not apply for this position if you are applying for any other position currently offered at Quest.
Thanks!
