The Department of Sociology at Sam Houston State University announces an opening for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2014. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, maintain an active research program, and provide service to the university and the discipline. We are open to applicants from any specialization, but are especially interested in candidates who have a research focus in immigration, race, and/or social movements. Applicants should address in their cover letter how their specialization will contribute to existing department strengths in rural sociology, sociology of food and agriculture, community, environment, disasters, and health.
A PhD in sociology or a closely related discipline must be completed by the time of appointment. Applicants must have a research agenda leading to publications in refereed journals and the potential to acquire extramural funding. Evidence of excellence (or the promise of excellence) in teaching effectiveness is also required. The department offers several undergraduate courses online and the Masters of Arts program is completely online. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
