The African Studies Program and the Department of Women’s Studies invite applications for a position in African Studies and Women’s Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in African Studies and Women’s Studies. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research focuses on gender and sexuality in colonial or postcolonial studies and or African feminism. This position is part of a college-wide initiative to enhance African Studies at The Pennsylvania State University and strengthen intellectual ties between the Department of Women’s Studies and the newly-created African Studies Program. We expect to make an appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The candidate will also be expected to contribute strongly to the development of the African Studies Program. Candidates should have the potential to publish in high-quality venues and to win external funding, and have good teaching credentials. Candidates must have their Ph.D. in hand by August 2014. Faculty positions at Penn State involve substantial research support; in addition, junior positions offer significant release time. The salary/benefit package is competitive, and the position begins in the fall 2014.
