The Department of Sociology and Criminology at Saint Mary's University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 01 2014. We are seeking a scholar with a substantive research specialization focusing on the effects of colonialism on Aboriginal/Indigenous peoples in a Canadian context. The Department is particularly interested in qualified candidates who have first-hand experience working, teaching, and/or living with Aboriginal communities, who have a capacity to build connections with Aboriginal communities, and/or who are of Aboriginal ancestry. The successful candidate will teach core courses at the introductory level (SOCI 1210, SOCI 1211) and in research methodology (SOCI/CRIM 2100, SOCI/CRIM 3100, and/or SOCI/CRIM 3102) as well as support and contribute to the curriculum more broadly. The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or be ABD and close to the completion of a PhD) in Sociology or a closely related discipline, provide evidence of a strong research record or an emerging scholarly profile focusing on the effects of colonialism on aboriginal/indigenous peoples in a Canadian context, show promise of a high standard of teaching, and have a strong capacity for, and commitment to, collegial service. Experience in an aboriginal culture will be considered an asset.
