Required Qualifications and Education:
• Completed Ph.D. in interdisciplinary field at time of application
• Demonstrated teaching experience in the following areas: systems of privilege and structural inequalities, cultural literacy, intercultural development, U.S. and global diversity
• Successful interdisciplinary research experience
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
• Experience in engaged pedagogy
• Experience teaching collaboration, integration, diversity and problem solving
• Experience with liberal education and integrative learning
• Experience with interdisciplinary collaborative research
Responsibilities: The Liberal Studies Department is housed in the innovative Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies, the heart of GVSU’s nationally recognized liberal education initiative. The Liberal Studies, Religious Studies, and Intercultural Training Certificate (ITC) Programs all reside in the Liberal Studies Department. ITC is a campus-wide program option for students to develop their skills in understanding cultural differences and building cross-cultural relationships. The candidate will teach LIB 201: Diversity in the United States, and ITC 100: Introduction to Intercultural Competence and Communication. The successful candidate will teach and develop courses for the Liberal Studies major, maintain an active research program, and have a strong commitment to excellence in interdisciplinary teaching. Other courses to be taught may include: LIB 325 Understanding LGBTQ Lives, LIB 320: Voices of the Civil Rights Movement, LIB 350: The Immigrant Experience, or LIB 401: Visionary Thinkers depending on area of specialization. Service to the program, department, college, university and larger community is also required.
