The School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University seeks candidates for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor in Global Studies(Job Order 10577). Position start date: August 16, 2014. We are seeking candidates with research and teaching interests at the intersection of Violence, Conflict and Human Rights. We seek a scholar who works in the area of human rights and associated social and political problems of conflict and violence. This area includes research and instruction in institutions such as international courts, tribunals, and intergovernmental agencies; in international non-governmental organizations; and in the causes and consequences of social problems that these institutions and organizations address such as violence, conflict, and repression at various scales including local, domestic, trans-border, international, and transnational. The position is open with respect to methodology. The School of Politics and Global Studies grants a Ph.D., M.A., B.S. and B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Global Studies with plans for a Global Studies M.A. The successful candidate will contribute scholarship and teaching to support these programs. The School of Politics and Global Studies values interdisciplinary scholarship, and the successful candidate will have the potential to affiliate and collaborate with other schools and centers at Arizona State University. Required qualifications: candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant social science discipline (e.g., Anthropology, Geography, Political Science, Sociology) by the time of the appointment; must demonstrate excellence in scholarship in their approach to global studies; and must demonstrate the ability to contribute courses in the multi-disciplinary Global Studies program. Desired qualifications: evidence of a promising research agenda in Global Studies; promise of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; promise of ability to generate external funding.
