Franklin College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology to begin August 2012. Located approximately 30 minutes from downtown Indianapolis, Franklin College is a career-sensitive liberal arts college that serves just over 1000 students.
We seek a broadly-trained sociologist with well documented interest and experience in teaching statistics and research methods. This position has four major responsibilities. (1) Teaching a two-semester research methods course in which students conduct qualitative and quantitative research by working with local community groups. (2) Teaching across the discipline, including statistics, introduction to sociology, stratification, race, and ethnicity in global contexts.
Opportunities also exist to teach interdisciplinary courses. (3) Assisting in redesigning curriculum to better prepare students for life after college. (4) Supervising students in campus organizations, internships, overseas travel experiences, and other extracurricular activities. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching and engaged learning.
Candidates who can demonstrate a dedication to teaching and interest in working with undergraduates in a small, collegial liberal arts setting will be given priority. Required qualifications include college level teaching experience and an earned doctorate or ABD, preferably with a PhD to be awarded by August 2012. Cross-cultural experience is preferred.
