Western Ontario's deadline is Sept 30th, but they are going through applications already. Early application encouraged.

I'm so sick of search committees doing this nonsense. If you want to start looking through applications on a particular day, then set your deadline for that day. This sort of bullshit does nothing more than further reduce any meritocratic component of the job search. Just stop.

I have no problem with them culling the herd early, assuming they consider every application that comes in up to the deadline. Trimming applications they know have no chance, in advance, is actually a pretty smart decision and can help speed up the process for those who end up getting an interview. As long as they are using this time to make a long list (and not a short/interview list), who cares?

Has anyone heard anything from Ontario? I noticed on the wiki that somebody said that they are constructing a long short list.

If you are on the long short list, they are requesting letters from your recommenders. So, don't worry if you haven't heard from them directly. But, you could ask your recommenders if they have been asked to send a letter.

Anything since the letter requests and the long-short list?
