...if you were to compare with Theory, Culture and Society, how would you do that? Obviously, TCS has been around longer, has a better Impact Factor, etc. But if you had to set the two up side by side, how would they stack up?

I have not submitted to EJST myself, but know folks who have submitted there, as well as TCS. I have heard that review times at EJST are pretty good, and the experiences were fairly positive overall. TCS obviously is a lot more prestige, but reviewing there is slow and unpredictable.

From my experience, the editor strongly favors articles related with his own research interests. It's undesirable for a generalist journal as this one claims to be. Furthermore, they ask for a short biographical note, and I do not see the relevance of that requirement.

The editor is too biased and selective I think. If he is interested in the article and finds interesting, he sends out for peer review. The editor needs to be changed in this journal if it aims to achieve high impact in the field. Sociological Theory is the best one. Theory & Society is good too but the review time is too slow.
