This is not an official job announcement. However, I am looking for recent sociology PhD's or advanced ABD's -- or even Women's Studies, American Studies, Cultural Studies, etc., folks with the relevant background in sociology -- who might be interested in a one-year term position at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau. We just lost our only sociology prof to another school, and we're putting together an emergency hire to fill the gap for next year.
We don't have any expectations/demands so far as subfields are concerned. The teaching load would be 4-4 (possibly 3-4), with a section of intro each semester and three other courses that would be pretty much open to the faculty member's preference. Classes here are very small. An intro section might enroll 30-40, with upper-division courses running anywhere from 10-20 at the most. We have 800 full-time students and several thousand part-timers, with a campus that's located in one of the most beautiful regions of the Pacific Northwest.
Salary would be roughly $50K with benefits. We will not likely be able to provide relocation expenses, but it's possible that something can be negotiated there.
Please contact me (David Noon, Social Science Department Chair) at dhnoon@uas.alaska.edu if you're interested.
