Summary Description: The Department of Sociomedical Sciences (SMS) at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health is seeking applications for a tenured or tenure-track scholar at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. Although interest areas are open, we particularly seek applications from social scientists working in the broad areas of substance use (including tobacco) and/or drug policy, or chronic diseases, including obesity and cardiovascular health. Within these areas, approaches focusing on social policy, structural interventions, and health communication are welcome.Candidates should have research experience and training in public health and/or the social sciences. All qualified candidates will be considered, though we particularly encourage applicants with backgrounds in anthropology and/or sociology. Candidates should have a strong record of scholarly achievement, peer-reviewed publications, and teaching experience. The selected candidate is expected to have an established and successful record of extramurally-funded research, or to demonstrate potential to obtain extramural funding for their research. The candidate is also expected to work across disciplines to collaborate with researchers within SMS and Columbia, mentor graduate students and junior faculty members (in the case of senior candidates), teach graduate courses, and engage in department, school and university-level service activities. A doctoral degree in an appropriate field is required. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should have a strong record of scholarly achievement, peer-reviewed publications, the ability to secure extramural funding and teaching experience. A doctoral degree in an appropriate field is required. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Excellent quantitative analysis skills, communication skills, and collaborative skills are also required.
