North Central College invites applications for two tenure-track positions in sociology to begin September 1, 2014. Appointment at the rank of assistant professor is anticipated, but higher rank may be considered for suitably qualified candidates. Applicants should have teaching experience and show potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and scholarship. Ph.D. required by time of appointment.
The Department is committed to social justice, the liberal arts, involving undergraduates in our research, and using the rich landscape of the Chicago area in our teaching and research. For the first position, we are seeking a sociologist who has the ability to teach in and further develop our criminal justice track, preferably with a specialization in criminology or criminal justice. For the second position, we are seeking a sociologist with a specialization in stratification. Candidates for both positions should be able to contribute to the department’s core curriculum (e.g., Introduction to Sociology, Urban Problems, Research Methods, or Theory). Secondary areas of interest are open.
Review of applications will begin October 20, 2013 and continue until the positions are filled. Potential applicants who will attend the ASA meeting in New York City are invited to request a preliminary interview by contacting Dr. Jennifer Keys (jlkeys@noctrl.edu) no later than August 7, 2013.
