The faculty of the Department of Sociology at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications from individuals for a Tenure Track position in the Department of Sociology.
Sociology of Black Communities:
The department of Sociology at CSU Dominguez Hills is seeking applicants for the Position of Assistant Professor with expertise in the Sociology of Black Communities whose emphases may include: urbanism, environmental justice, immigration, cross-race relations, or community health. Candidate must have a PhD in Sociology or a closely related field by the time of the appointment. Experience in working with a diverse student population is highly preferred. Given the university and departmental commitments to serve our communities, special consideration will be given to candidates whose scholarship reflects working with diverse community organizations as well as an understanding of the complex relationships of race, class, gender, sexuality and citizenship.
Responsibilities
1. Teaching courses in the field of Black Communities and other areas of expertise.
2. Student advising and mentoring.
3. Conducting an ongoing research program preferably involving students.
4. Providing department, university and community service.
Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD in Sociology or a closely-related field at the time of the appointment. ABD will be considered.
Evidence of the ability to provide high quality curricular and instructional service to students.
Evidence of an active research agenda.
Evidence of a commitment to help build our “sociology in service to community” vision within the department, the university, and the larger community.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with diverse community organizations including an understanding of the complex relationships of race, class, gender, sexuality and citizenship.
Experience with Grant writing.
Experience with involving students in research.
