Job Description: As part of a major new hiring initiative across multiple fields, the Thomas J. Watson Jr. Institute for International Studies and the Department of Sociology at Brown University seek to recruit a Professor of Sociology (tenure-track and open rank) who works in the area of development beginning July 1, 2014. We are seeking applicants whose research focuses on various aspects of political, social and/or economic development. We are especially interested in applicants whose research is comparative and/or international. The successful senior candidate must have an outstanding record of national and international scholarly achievement, a proven record of successful research funding, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising. The successful junior candidate must be engaged in a research program with the potential to influence his/her field, demonstrate the intention to obtain external funding, and demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising. The new faculty member will hold a joint appointment and have equal teaching, advising, and administrative responsibilities in the Watson Institute and the Department of Sociology. Junior candidates must have a doctoral degree granted or in hand by August 2014.
