MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The department seeks candidates whose primary area of specialization is criminology. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to teach undergraduate courses in the Sociology of Law, and Race, Gender and Crime, as well as Deviant Behavior, Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, Corrections or other topics appropriate to our BA program in Criminology. An ability to teach quantitative social research methods and to contribute both to the college's general education program and SUNY Cortland's commitment to Transformational Education will also be positive considerations in our evaluation of otherwise qualified candidates.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD by time of appointment in Sociology with a concentration/specialization in criminology preferred, or PhD in Criminology. Demonstrated excellence in teaching as well as the ability to maintain a record of active scholarship and service.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching experience beyond teaching assistantship, proof of excellence in the classroom, established research agenda, and the ability to teach Sociology of Law, and Race, Gender and Crime are preferred. The ability to contribute to department's quantitative methods curriculum and to the college's general education program and Transformational Education mission will also be positive considerations in the evaluation of otherwise well qualified candidates
THE DEPARTMENT:
The Sociology/Anthropology Department at SUNY Cortland includes four Bachelor of Arts programs: Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology, and Archaeology; as well as various concentrations in those disciplines. With fourteen full time faculty members and over 300 majors the department is dynamic, growing, and committed to offering our students a solid liberal arts education as well as career preparation. We offer not only a broad range of course offerings but also strongly encourage our students to take advantage of numerous internship, service learning, and study abroad opportunities.
THE COLLEGE AND COMMUNITY:
The College traces its beginnings to 1868 and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Professional Studies, School of Education, and School of Arts and Sciences.
