Overview:
The Quinnipiac University Department of Sociology seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice beginning in the fall semester of 2014. The area of specialization is open. Candidates’ areas of interests and teaching experience should complement the existing Criminal Justice curriculum which is available at: www.quinnipiac.edu/college-of-arts-and-sciences/department-of-sociology/ba-in-criminal-justice-and-minor/. The appointee will join a growing department that currently offers undergraduate majors in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Services, Gerontology, and a minor in Anthropology.
Quinnipiac University is a thriving private, coeducational, non-sectarian institution located in Hamden, Connecticut, 90 minutes north of New York City and two hours from Boston. The University has 350 full-time faculty and enrolls 6,200 full-time undergraduate and 2,300 graduate students. Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach courses in his/her area of specialization, core courses in the criminal justice program such as Crime and Society, Criminal Justice Research Methods and the Senior Seminar in Criminal Justice, and courses in the University core and Sociology curricula as needed. The teaching load is 3/3.
Additional responsibilities include developing and/or maintaining an active research agenda leading to scholarly publications; advising and mentoring students; and participating in departmental, school and university committees.
Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants:
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Sociology with a specialization in Criminal Justice or Criminology or a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or Criminology at the time of appointment. Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness with criminal justice topics as well as an active scholarly portfolio are also requirements.
