Lewis & Clark College, a private liberal arts college with 2,000 undergraduates, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology beginning fall semester 2014. We seek candidates whose research and teaching focus on contemporary Africa, African diasporas, and/or African American histories and experiences. Topics of interest include: law/criminality/deviance; critical race theory; digital culture/new media; migration/immigration. Candidates will be expected to develop courses that incorporate mixed methods and/or quantitative research. Preference will be give to candidates who can contribute to the College's Gender and/or Ethnic Studies programs. Candidates from geography, urban studies, or other related fields are also invited to apply. Ph.D. required at the time of appointment as a tenure-track member of the faculty. Potential for excellent teaching and research at an undergraduate institution are essential. Usual load is five courses per academic year and may include regular participation in the College's general education program. The College is committed to preparing students for leadership in an increasingly interdependent world, and affirms the educational benefits of diversity.
