Position Summary Information
Job Summary
The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Texas A&M University-Commerce (Commerce, TX) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (commensurate with qualifications)beginning January 2014.
Major/Essential Duties of Job
Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Criminal Justice and Criminology.
Although the department desires a candidate who has experience or who is willing to teach classes in alternative forums (i.e., online, off-campus, and on the weekend), the primary duty will be to teach face-to-face courses on the Commerce campus.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong potential for scholarly research and provide evidence of effective teaching at the University level. Candidates will also be expected to actively engage in service activities.
Occasional Duties
Required Education and Experience
The applicant must hold a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field. Candidates with a degree in a related field must have completed at least 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice or Criminology. A Juris Doctorate degree alone is not a suitable credential for this position. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but must have their PhD in hand at time of hire. The area of specialization is open, but candidates with an emphasis or research agenda in policing or law enforcement, broadly defined, will be given priority. To be considered at the Associate level the candidate must have an established teaching and research agenda.
