The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Westmont College is now accepting applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position that starts fall 2014. The department seeks a candidate with research and teaching specialization in one or more of the following areas: social inequality, race and ethnicity, religion. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated competence in quantitative methodology and statistical analyses. Candidates must have a PhD in Sociology, evidence of scholarship, and a strong commitment to high quality undergraduate education. Candidates must support the institution’s mission as a Christian liberal arts college in the evangelical tradition. Be sure to read the formal application carefully for this job. In addition to specific theological beliefs, Westmont requires signature and adherence to a community life statement that condemns homosexuality, drunkeness, pre-marital sex, etc.

In that case, I hope whoever they hire studies how organized religions perpetuate social inequality.
