Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences - Assistant or Associate Professor

The University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a full time tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Human Rights in the Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS) Program. We are especially interested in an intellectually expansive scholar with strong publication and research records in human rights addressing one or more of the following areas: international law or humanitarian law, social/economic rights (especially labor rights in the global economy), the human rights system in Europe or in the Americas, women’s human rights, disability rights, and/or post-conflict justice. She/he will join a faculty committed to the advancement of human rights scholarship and practice across the three campuses of the University of Washington and its Center for Human Rights. The successful candidate will be expected to work with diverse student populations, involve students in faculty research, and integrate new pedagogical techniques and technologies into teaching/learning.
The position primarily contributes to the development of a degree in Human Rights and to interdisciplinary majors in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics; Law and Policy; and Global Studies. Depending upon the successful candidate’s field, this position also contributes to other interdisciplinary majors and concentrations at UW Tacoma, such as Ethnic, Gender and Labor Studies; and History. The position begins September 16, 2014, requires an earned doctorate or foreign equivalent in Human Rights, Political Science, Geography, History, Sociology, Area Studies, or related field at the time of appointment, and is contingent on funding. A candidate in the final stages of his/her dissertation would be appointed on an acting basis.
