Job Description:
The Department of Rural Sociology in the Division of Applied Social Sciences (DASS), and the Truman School of Public Affairs, jointly seek applications and nominations for a tenure-track assistant professor position (tenure home in Rural Sociology) to support their research and teaching programs. The focus of this position is on food policy, from local to global scales. Candidates should demonstrate how their interests complement the general departmental emphasis areas: in Rural Sociology on sustainable development, food and agriculture, organization/communities, consumption, and natural resources/environment, and in the Truman School on public policy and management.
Applicants must demonstrate potential to contribute to scholarship and a research trajectory suitable for garnering extramural support, and are expected to publish in high quality journals relevant to their emphasis areas, sustainable development and public policy. We encourage applicants who work at the intersections of basic and applied interdisciplinary research and can participate in domestic and/or international programs to improve food security, health, and well-being. An earned doctorate in sociology or rural sociology is required at the time of appointment. We will be interviewing potential candidates at the Annual Meeting of the American Sociology Association in New York City, NY on August 10th, 2013.
