Knox College. The Department of Anthropology and Sociology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of sociology to begin September 2014. Knox is an independent, selective liberal arts institution with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Dedicated from its earliest years to offering a college education to people of color and to women, Knox currently enjoys one of the most diverse student bodies and faculty for a college of its size in the country. Twenty-nine percent of Knox students are first-generation college students, 34 percent come from low-income backgrounds, 25 percent are U.S. students of color, and nine percent are international students. The Anthropology and Sociology Department offers a joint major which emphasizes the complementarities of the two disciplines and which culminates in faculty-supervised student research.
Qualifications: Ph.D. or advanced ABD in sociology. Research and teaching interests are open, but we will give preference to qualified macrosociologists with experience in mixed (quantitative and qualitative) methods. Prior experience with qualitative data collection and analysis are necessary to supervise student research. The strongest applicants will be those that expand rather than duplicate the strengths of our existing faculty.
In keeping with the college's 176-year commitment to equal rights, Knox actively encourages scholars of color, first-generation college students, women, LGBTQ scholars, and members of other groups historically underrepresented in higher education to apply. Please submit cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching ability (to include teaching evaluations and sample syllabi for existing or future courses), a description of research interests, and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Gabrielle Raley at socsearch@knox.edu. We will begin reviewing applications in July and intend to conduct preliminary interviews at the ASA annual meeting in August 2013. Campus visits will be scheduled during fall term 2013. Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
Salary Range - 50-59K per ASA Job Bank
