2 months for an R&R, with both helpful comments and helpful editorial guidance, including additional comments (the reviewers did not contradict each other, making this easier). 2 more months for a conditional acceptance

Hmmm. Sounds too good to not be an insider case (grad student connected to editor/grad paper with theory award) to me. Can someone else confirm/deny turn-around times for Soc Theory please? My understanding is that they are relatively slow (4-6 months response time). It would be very refreshing to hear things have changed. Thanks.

Last couple of times I have sent in, it takes 3 to 3 1/2 months to get first round of reviews, and 2-3 for R and R reviews. I would agree that something is a little strange with a 2 month - 2 month turn around. But...who the hell knows.

I've waited about 5 months for first round reviews, which were helpful. I've heard that the editor plays heavy favorites and that some papers definitely get the inside track.

I'm the one that received the 2 months review. It was definitely not an inside case. Maybe I got lucky and the editor sent it to people who review fast because he liked the paper himself. I forgot to mention I only received 2 reviews, both positive, but also helpful critiques by the editor that went beyond the issues mentioned by the reviewers. When I had emailed them about review times before submitting they said it takes 2-3 months.

I just received my June(!) volume in the mail, which reminded me that I subscribed way back in January, but that is the only volume I've received in 8 months! What is going on here?
