Much improved forum, including integrated wiki and that voting.

El duderino blocking links to new page to protect his bottom line

Since apparently this isn't going to stop, I am going to leave this post up, with an explanation. First of all, there is no "bottom line" here. I make absolutely no money off of this forum. This is a proboards free forum. They keep any and all ad revenue from here. If you don't trust me, see for yourself: proboards.com/create-free-forum/You can even create your own forum to confirm it, if you'd like. And in fact, I couldn't care less about how many page views this forum gets. I have never promoted or linked to it elsewhere. I don't even run any sort of analytics here, which means I wouldn't even know if traffic is going up or down. Now, so why am I blocking the links to this "alternative" forum? I initially didn't mind it being promoted here (though I was skeptical of its purpose, given all the talk about "trolling sociotards"). The original thread mentioning its creation is still here, minus link. A few hours later, someone created an additional thread promoting it. I still didn't mind, and left both up for a while. And then someone tried to post yet another thread, using E1Duderino as their name, redirecting to the new forum (notice the number 1 instead of a lower case "l"). I was also locked out of the email account I use to moderate here for 24 hours for too many unsuccessful login attempts. At that point, I decided that was enough. I don't have enough time to get involved in petty internet drama. I blocked the forum URL, hoping that people would get the message and move on, but apparently not, since there have been multiple attempts to get around the block. I understand that you (if you are indeed Kirk) make money off of ads in that forum, and it is great that you do. I am sure that you will find many places to promote it. It just won't be here, because it became clear that simply linking there wasn't going to be enough.

I for one appreciate Elduderino's efforts. I used this forum extensively while I was on the market a couple of years ago. This form has been extremely helpful to me and I'm sure many others. I know that Elduderino occasionally removes posts because private/personal/confidential information is posted by some. I sure hope someone's attempt to create an alternative forum because they can't live with the fact that they're not the moderator and/or because they want to make some money fails miserably.

Kirk is likely not promoting his board here, and not for money. He's certainly not trying to hack your account -- you've got enemies -- that's not Kirk's fault nor the fault of his board.
The and boards get thousands and thousands of hits a day -- they're bigger fields than ours. And ad revenue is nominal. Kirk has enough on his plate without promoting the board.
Kirk made a soc_job_rumors because a few of us expressly asked him to on . And people have been pushing soc_job_rumors because the forum software he's got is legitimately better, because there's an editable job market wiki for people to keep track of the market, because there's a conference wiki, because the software allows you to post *completely* anonymously, and because Kirk's moderation policies are closer in line with a true job rumors board -- only deleting extraordinary personal abuse, racism, or homophobia -- everything else goes.
The econ trolls have died down. Best.
