Has anyone submitted here? Looking for a home for a paper I'm finishing up and will likely submit here or to Theory, Culture & Society. Would be very interested to hear author experiences.

Someone I know recently got rejected here. They received only one very short review (4 sentences) that was not very helpful. Manuscripts apparently need to have a "broad international scope," and the editor said of the 400+ manuscripts they receive each year, they accept about 1 in 8.

^ Are you sure that wasn't a desk reject? Four sentence sounds like the manuscript wasn't even sent to actual review.

I just received a rejections from this journal, which took almost 3 months. I got what sounds like the same standard response the posters above received:
thank you for considering Media Culture and Society for the publication of your research. Unfortunately, following the process of peer review, we have decided not to publish your manuscript in Media Culture and Society. I hope the outcome of this specific submission will not discourage you from the submission of future work. We now receive a very large number of manuscripts (currently, more than 400 a year) from all over the world and so competition for a place in one of our issues is strong given the space available - it involves a selection rate of about 1 in 8. The quality of the work we decide not to publish varies greatly and you may well find success with another journal.
Again, given the amount of manuscripts under review we are often only able to offer brief indications as to why, after careful reading, a manuscript has not been selected for publication and these indications have been sent along with this message.
We regret that we are not able to enter into any further correspondence on this decision.
Then the one reviewer gave a four sentence response that essentially said it was not appropriate for the journal but did suggest another journal, which I have submitted to. They also supplied the numerical values assigned to my article by the reviewer. Ie Rate this article on a scale of 1-4 ...is it appropriate, rigor, uniqueness, arguments, etc. I think there were five categories.
